U.S. ENERGY MORE SECURE WITH TODAY’S THERMAL TECHNOLOGY

Densified Biomass used for Thermal Energy is an Efficient, Green Option for Americans

June 23, 2011 (Arlington, VA)- The Pellet Fuels Institute (PFI) applauds the efforts the Obama Administration and Congress are undertaking to promote the usage of renewable fuels in the United States as a means of decreasing our nation’s dependence on foreign oil.

Renewable energy offers Americans the opportunity today to limit their use of fossil fuels, while providing a positive economic and environmental imprint on our nation’s landscape.

With the debate continuing on Capitol Hill over the fairness and wisdom of providing subsidies for certain renewable energies, PFI encourages the development of a level playing field amongst all forms of homegrown, alternative energies such as ethanol, biofuels, solar, wind, geothermal and biomass for thermal applications.

Densified biomass in the form of pelletized fuel is an excellent resource for meeting our nation’s energy needs, particularly as a means for providing thermal (heat) energy. Thermal energy accounts for roughly one-third of our nation’s energy consumption, and is just as much a part of securing our country’s long-term energy independence and development for a 21st century green economy as renewable transportation and electrical energies.

Through technology and fuel already being utilized today, over one million American homes currently rely on densified biomass to meet their heating needs.  Ample production capacity in the United States means this easy-to-use fuel will continue to grow as an economically priced, green alternative to traditional fossil fuels such as imported oil.  Using American grown biomass for thermal energy is not only efficient, contributing to the displacement of the equivalent of millions of barrels of oil, but also creates much-needed green jobs within our local communities.
