Chamber: Obama plan ‘premature’

Despite President Barack Obama’s recent attempts to win over the business community, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday signaled the president’s new energy plans are going nowhere fast.

“It’s ridiculously premature to even have a CES conversation,” said Christopher Guith, vice president for policy at the Chamber’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, when asked whether the Chamber could support specific targets.

Obama during his State of the Union address last month urged Congress to pass legislation mandating that 80 percent of the nation’s electricity come from so-called “clean energy” sources – including nuclear, natural gas “clean” coal and renewable – by 2035.
