Boiler MACT final rule this week?

All signs point to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issuing final rules on biomass boilers by next week, after a U.S. District Court District of Columbia court granted the EPA a deadline extension from Jan. 16 to Jan. 21, “or until further order of this court,” according to the court’s order Wednesday.

The much-anticipated proposed final rules for emissions from large and small boilers and solid waste incinerators could hurt the development of the biomass renewable energy industry.

EPA originally had asked the court to grant an extension to April 2012, because the agency was having difficulty working through some 4,800 public comments received on the proposed rule.
